Multicentre observational study on optimising the oncology care pathway
Background
A multicentre observational study in oncology was conducted to optimise the care pathway of patients with breast cancer. Carried out in four hospitals and involving 78 patients, the study set out to analyse the care pathway and identify the main areas for improvement. Its objectives included assessing the coordination between the different stakeholders involved in patient care, as well as the organisation of the various stages of the care pathway. The study also looked at the medico-economic organisation of healthcare facilities, in order to better understand potential difficulties and opportunities to improve patient care.
Challenges identified
The main challenges were:
Working directly with patients required an approach that was both human and methodical, ensuring the reliability of the data collected and the consistency of the recorded care pathways. This approach was fully in line with the requirements of oncology clinical studies, where the quality of data collection and the accuracy of information are essential to monitoring care pathways.
Pharmaspecific’s role
Pharmaspecific provided an active on-site presence through its dedicated team member, who met patients during their visits, collected clinical and organisational information and completed the eCRFs in real time. This close presence on the ground ensured accurate data collection that faithfully reflected clinical reality, while easing the workload of hospital teams and helping to ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Results
Production of a usable and representative analysis of the patient pathway, used by the sponsor to define priorities for organisational improvement.
